Six-figure, portable business about a topic I love!

The Number One thing a great membership site must have

We’ve built hundreds of membership sites over the years – for us and our clients. And a common questions we get is “What’s the number one thing I can do to make my membership site successful?”

The number one thing you can do to make your membership site successful is to:

Sell them a simple, easy, step-by-step process that gets them the results they truly desire.

People buy results. They buy simplicity. And they buy the solution to a problem that’s really been bugging them.

But too often we see people planning a membership site that’s too general or vague. That maybe gives people a warm feeling, but doesn’t give a tangible outcome. And that rarely sells.

Here are a couple of examples.

Let’s say you’re a business coach. A membership site on “How to grow your business without extra time or stress”. Sounds OK, but it’s a bit intangible. Here’s a few alternatives:

  • How to double your income and halve your marketing costs in the next 6 months using the latest in Facebook marketing
  • How to add automated income streams to your business with membership sites
  • The right way to recruit and train staff, to create a team that loves your business as much as you do

Get the idea?

Here’s some more.

Let’s say you have a passion for helping people find their life purpose. But a membership site on the topic of “finding your life purpose” again is too vague and intangible. A great alternative would be “How to leave your boring job and start a business you love”.
Or maybe you’re a weight loss expert. A membership site on “how to lose weight, look better and feel younger” is not going to fly. There’s too much competition and it’s not specific enough. A better topic would be “Lose 15kg in the next 10 weeks without going hungry or doing strenuous exercise, guaranteed”.

Here’s how Facebook’s latest change can super-charge your business growth

Yes (sigh) yet another change from Facebook. Another new thing to learn. But this time it’s one we think you’re going to love!

Facebook is about to roll out its new “Lead Ads”. In a nutshell, these are ads that make filling out an opt-in form on a mobile device as easy as tap-tap-submit. Facebook pre-fills the opt in form, so it’s much more likely that someone on a mobile device will opt in to your email list.

So, why do we think Facebook Lead Ads are so revolutionary? Here are our top 4 reasons:

  1. Anyone who makes serious money on Facebook will tell you that the best strategy is to first send visitors to an opt in page, build an email list, and then market to them. Since Facebook is still essentially a social platform, overt selling on Facebook is still a no-no.
  2. Up until now, getting people to opt in when they’re using Facebook on a mobile device has been difficult. Most people simply won’t go to the trouble of typing in their name and email on a tiny mobile screen. Opt in rates on mobiles are a tiny fraction of those on desktops.

The four mistakes most businesses make in their FB marketing

Sadly it’s true – and very costly – most businesses make these 4 major mistakes with their Facebook marketing. Given that there are now 1.5 billion people on Facebook (and almost a billion using it every day), if your business is not on Facebook then you’re way behind. But with that amount of traffic comes a lot of competition and clutter. You need to do your Facebook marketing the right way to make it work.

So, what are the majority of businesses doing wrong? And how do you fix it? At her upcoming workshop, Kerry Fitzgibbon will show you how to do Facebook marketing the right way. If you haven’t yet picked up your 2 complimentary tickets here’s the link:

And here are the top 4 mistakes that businesses make in their Facebook marketing:

  1. They focus on building a fan base. Business owners think “more is better” when it comes to fans. So they run contests and poorly targeted ads and get a heap of new fans, but those fans are unlikely to be buyers. They’re low quality and poorly targeted.
  2. Next they focus on Reach (ie how many people see your stuff) as a measure of their success. Two problems here. First, if you have a poorly targeted fan base then your Reach is going to be low anyway. Second, Reach is far less important than your marketing message. Getting the right message in front of a small number of the right people will always outperform the wrong message in front of a large, untargeted group. Reach is NOT an important thing to measure.
  3. They focus on engagement. So, once business have built a poor quality list, and lamented the low Reach they’re getting, they decide that they must fix it by increasing engagement. They want likes, comments and shares. So what do they do? Put up lots of memes with cute pictures of kittens or generic motivational stuff. Sure it’s entertaining (so people will engage), but given that it’s practically unrelated to your business, it’s doing nothing to cement your relationship or promote your business.
  4. They focus on sales. Finally, businesses figure it’s time to sell something. After all, they now have a large fan base who love their memes of cute kittens and beautiful sunrises, right? Surely now is the time to make lots of offers and heaps of money? But if you’re marketing to the wrong people, with a message that they don’t relate to, then of course sales are going to be low.

It’s about now that most business owners throw up their hands in frustration, and declare that Facebook marketing was a complete waste of time, money and effort.
They give up.

But it doesn’t have to work that way. Many businesses are successful on Facebook, because they don’t follow the flawed model we just described. Instead, they use a process like this:

  1. Build an audience that truly cares about your business
  2. Create and share lots of helpful, relevant content
  3. Have a great website, that works hand-in-hand with your Facebook page to get you more high quality Facebook followers, and to make loads of sales.

It’s a simple and very effective process, but first you need to “unlearn” a lot of what you think you know about Facebook marketing.

How to quickly test if your business idea is a goer

If you’ve been to our training before you’ll know that we’re pretty big on the 80-20 principle. That means we teach you how to focus on the 20% of things that get 80% of the results. This saves loads of time, and you get results much more quickly.

A great place to apply the 80-20 principle is when you first come up with a new business idea. It’s really important to find out quickly if your idea is a money-maker or a dud. Otherwise you end up wasting time, or worse – you become disillusioned and demotivated. Once a negative mindset sets in it can be hard to shake, and can affect all of your attempts at generating online income.

So, how do you test if an idea is going to be a winner or a dud? The steps we use are below, but first up, if you haven’t yet registered for our Online Success Training Program in June, here is the link again:

At that event we’ll show you lots of other ways to apply the 80-20 principle to your online business, so you can cut down the time from concept-to-cash. We’ll also walk you through some client case-studies that have applied the steps below to quickly launch successful businesses.

Here’s how to test if your idea is a winner or a dud:

  1. Come up with an idea for an info product, eg an ebook, a membership site, or an info pack
  2. List the things you would put in the product, but don’t build it yet
  3. Describe the benefits that the customer would get from the product
  4. Promote the product using Facebook ads. You’ll need to spend about $50 on ads to get a reliable answer
  5. Ask people to pre-register for the product once it’s ready by giving you their name and email
  6. If you get 10 or more people pre-register, then it’s a goer, and you’re ready to build the product. You’re also more motivated, as you now have a bunch of eager buyers waiting for the product to be finished!

Creating a successful online business is not rocket science. But you do need a proven, step-by-step system to follow. We’ve seen too many people fail because they didn’t test their idea before spending time, money and effort developing it.
